Creating a mixed media font
One of my favourite creative undertakings recently has been delving into the world of font creation. Though I have dabbled with this skill in procreate over the years for logo creation, this was the first time I have been given the creative freedom to produce letters using my favourite medium - mixed media!
I was given the brief of “pink and textured” for a video series that shares resources for nursery and reception aged children. The pre-existing assets for this project where hand made characters that combined knitted, paper and crayon drawn elements, so I wanted to match this visual style.
I was given the selection of letters needed for the first video in the series, but decided the full alphabet would be the best way to deliver for this task, since the ‘Little Link’ branding is used over a variety of different audio-visual media.
Take a deeper look at my process in the Tiktok I made below:
I really enjoyed working towards a creative brief in this way, and experimenting with shapes and textures. Letter creation is something I am for sure going to incorporate more into my work.

After sending the .png, .psd and .ttf deliverables, the font could be used in a variety of ways. Below is an example of how they were incorporated into a project thumbnail.
